This month’s topic will be on “The Business of Building Commissioning” presented by ASHRAE distinguished lecturer Carl Lawson. To RSVP, email your Chapter Programs Chair at erik.walter@meinhardtusa.com. I would like to welcome everyone back for this the 2006-2007 Society year. I’m eager to serve as your President for the coming year because of all the things we as a Chapter can accomplish. We have the opportunity to serve the evolving needs of ASHRAE members as well as the general public. First I will like to welcome our new Committee chairs, Alex Hernandez, Javier Jarquin and Rodney Pacheco who will serve as Committees chairs for Student Activities, History and Research & Promotion respectively. I will also like to thank those who will continue to serve as committee chairs and officers of this chapter. We are fortunate to have some of last year’s officers and chairs (Erik Walter, Marie-Pierre Boutin, Chris Lopiano and Ben Ellis) have remained on for another year of service. Last year’s officers have all moved up a position, Erik Walter is our new President Elect and Ben Ellis, has filled the vacant slot of Vice-President. In addition Don Austin, Rick Ellison, Dan Rogers and Joe Fellmeth will serve as the Board of Governors. The Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) was just held this August in Sanibel, Fort Myers. The Gold Coast Chapter was represented by your Delegate, Alternate and the committee’s chairs. Again for the many years in a row, the Gold Coast Chapter excelled in Research and Promotion. I am proud to state that our Research and Promotion Committee raised over $28,000.00. This far exceeded our Challenge goal. Our new Society President Terry Townsend, P.E. issued challenges and goals related to his theme, The ASHRAE promise: A Sustainable Future. His challenges include expansion of the Advance Energy Design Guide series, more stringent savings in ASHRAE’s energy standard, and finding ways ASHRAE can minimize the environmental cost of its meetings. He said “We must have a sense of collective purpose. We are the pioneers in the reawakening of our Society. We are responsible for achieving a sustainable future” This coming year during our monthly meetings we will provide to you, our members and our guests, numerous presentation topics. It is our expectation that if you find the presentations valuable, you will not only continue your support of the local Chapter by attending the meetings, but you will help improve our Chapter by encouraging others to attend as well. Lastly I would like to announce that one of the events our Chapter holds every year which is a large part of our success in Resource Promotion is our Fall Golf Tournament. The Tournament will be held at Jacaranda Country Club again this year on September 22nd at 1 pm. Lets keep our streak of success going and have some fun on the course as well by supporting this event. Sincerely, ASHRAE Gold Coast Chapter John G. Rodriguez Chapter President 2006/07 Here are some of the topics we will be presenting this year:
