A Message From Our President

Jason Ayala

I would like to extend good wishes to all our members and their families and loved ones and hope that everyone got through Hurricane Frances safe and with minimal damage or loss.

I would like to welcome everyone back for this Society Year 2004-2005. I, Jason Ayala, am pleased to serve as your president for the coming year because of all the things we as a Chapter can accomplish to advance the sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and related human factors. We have the opportunity to serve the evolving needs of ASHRAE members as well as the general public.

As mentioned in the “Chapter News” section, the Chapter Regional Conference (CRC) was hosted in Jacksonville, Florida this year and once again the Gold Coast Chapter did superb and came home with numerous awards thanks to all the Chapter Chairs and of course the ring leader Mr. Joe Fellmeth. I could only hope to do as great of a job this Society Year. “My hat’s off to you Joe” thank you.

It is unfortunate that we lost some of our Chapter Chair volunteers for this year – Eric Walters, Tony Anderson, and Daniel Tharp—We hope they find time to join us again in the near future. I would like to extend a warm welcome to some new faces – Donald Austin (as President Elect and Programs Chair) and Christopher Lopiano (as Historian Chair). I would also like to thank the other Chairs for stepping up and staying for yet another year – Marie-Pierre Boutin, Brett Jenner, John Rodriguez, Joe Fellmeth, Dan Rogers, Allen Messer and Richard Ellison-Board of Governors (you guys make the Chapter).

The next CRC will be hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Gold Coast Chapter in which all the Florida ASHRAE Chapters will attend. We are looking for a volunteer committee to help set up these spectacular events come August of 2005. We need your help and support to put together a great event for the other Florida Chapters as well as us to enjoy. Let’s show them what Fort Lauderdale Cold Coast Chapter can do. (see Dan Rogers – CRC General Chair for further information).

Sincerely,

Jason Ayala

From your Program Chair,
Donald H. Austin, Jr. P.E.:

My experience has been that a great many variable flow chilled and heating water distribution systems suffer from low delta T problems. Usually, these problems are caused by the designs themselves, which often include decoupling lines and three-way valves scattered throughout.

It is time to clear the decks and adopt new thinking for variable-flow systems.

Having the opportunity to work with a number of forward-focused designers and manufacturers, I have the opportunity to provide a topic that should be of great interest. This program should provide engineers, designers and contractors information that will prove to be interesting and informative. The topic should provide new insights on how they can improve their next design.

Sincerely,

Don H. Austin, Jr., P.E.

Gold Coast Chapter News:

NEWS FROM THE CRC: Officers, New Committee Chairmen and Members of the Gold Coast Chapter attended this year’s Chapters Regional Conference (CRC). The 2004 Region XII CRC was held on August 27-28 at the beautiful Ponte Verde Inn and Club.

The Jacksonville Chapter was the host and they put on a great show. Region XII CRC was fortunate to have Society President Ron P. Vallort, P.E. who presented the Presidential Message “ASHRAE: The Strongest Link in the Cold Chain”.

The Gold Coast Chapter was awarded the “Most Improved Chapter” for the second year in a row. Mr. Joe Fellmeth, Immediate Past President should be applauded for that. Dan Rogers received a Chapter Service Award and also received and the highest award for Resource Promotions. Dan will serve this year as Regional Webmaster. Jason Ayala-Chapter President and Don Austin-President Elect represented our chapter during the two days of business meetings. Richard Ellison, Past President and Member of the Chapter Board of Governors provided his support during the CRC.

On Saturday, Joe Fellmeth-Resource Promotion Chair, John Rodriguez-Chapter Technology Transfer Chair, Marie-Pierre Boutin-Membership Promotion Chair, Tony Anderson-Secretary, Brett Jenner-Tresurer, and Daniel Tharp-Historian attended workshops.

The Gold Coast Chapter won many other awards based on exceeding the PAOE points required for recognition. The large number of awards show that we are a very strong chapter. The Gold Coast Chapter was handed the CRC Torch and will be the host of Region XII CRC next August. Dan Rogers will serve as the General Chair.
