LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. Members of the U.S. Green Building Council representing all segments of the building industry developed LEED and continue to contribute to its evolution.

LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. Based on well-founded scientific standards, LEED emphasizes state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. LEED recognizes achievements and promotes expertise in green building through a comprehensive system offering project certification, professional accreditation, training and practical resources.

A Message From Our President

Jason Ayala
Once again we were faced with another hurricane which was devastating for Florida. I hope all of you weathered hurricane Jeanne safely and with minimal damage.

The September meeting had a great turnout. I would like to thank all of you for coming out and supporting our chapter even though the meeting was rescheduled. It goes to show how much appreciation and commitment we have from our members. As a reminder, please note that the ASHRAE Golf Tournament is October 15th. Please show your support by reserving a foursome and coming out to participate. See you all at the tournament!!

The October meeting will be held at the Tower Club in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. This meeting will be a joint meeting with the Miami Chapter. I look forward to welcoming the members of the Miami Chapter to our meeting. I hope to see the same or better turnout for our October meeting.

Thank you
Sincerely,

Jason Ayala

September Meeting Recap

We had 36 members and guests at our September Meeting. This was a very good start considering the havoc that Mother Nature delivered during this most memorable month. The Marriott Hotel again proved to be a great host as the food and service was a good (and healthy) as ever. (Joe Fellmeth cleaned his entire plate). The Program was interesting and there was considerable Q & A dialog that followed which is an indication of a good program. Our thanks to Mr. Gene Rogers of Tampa Florida for bringing us the Program.

Gold Coast Chapter News:

NEWS FROM THE CRC: Officers, New Committee Chairmen and Members of the Gold Coast Chapter attended this year’s Chapters Regional Conference (CRC). The 2004 Region XII CRC was held on August 27-28 at the beautiful Ponte Verde Inn and Club.

The Jacksonville Chapter was the host and they put on a great show. Region XII CRC was fortunate to have Society President Ron P. Vallort, P.E. who presented the Presidential Message “ASHRAE: The Strongest Link in the Cold Chain”.

The Gold Coast Chapter was awarded the “Most Improved Chapter” for the second year in a row. Mr. Joe Fellmeth, Immediate Past President should be applauded for that. Dan Rogers received a Chapter Service Award and also received and the highest award for Resource Promotions. Dan will serve this year as Regional Webmaster. Jason Ayala-Chapter President and Don Austin-President Elect represented our chapter during the two days of business meetings. Richard Ellison, Past President and Member of the Chapter Board of Governors provided his support during the CRC.

On Saturday, Joe Fellmeth-Resource Promotion Chair, John Rodriguez-Chapter Technology Transfer Chair, Marie-Pierre Boutin-Membership Promotion Chair, Tony Anderson-Secretary, Brett Jenner-Tresurer, and Daniel Tharp-Historian attended workshops.

The Gold Coast Chapter won many other awards based on exceeding the PAOE points required for recognition. The large number of awards show that we are a very strong chapter. The Gold Coast Chapter was handed the CRC Torch and will be the host of Region XII CRC next August. Dan Rogers will serve as the General Chair.
