Often times owners, both private and municipal, can not allocate finances from their capital budgets to accomplish thses energy saving retrofits. Performance Contracting is an option where by the improvements are paid for through the ensuing energy savings. Companies known as Energy Saving Contractors or ESCOs bring together a team of Consulting Engineers and Mechanical Contractors as well as financing vehicles to make these retrofits a reality. Learn more how this approach could help your facility, your consulting firm or contracting business.

About Our Speaker
Eric B. Lawton, P.E., C.E.M., C.L.E.P.
Vice President- BGA Inc.

Mr. Lawton is a registered professional engineer, certified energy manager, and certified lighting efficiency professional. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Lawton's current position responsibilities include:

  • Owner and Corporate Officer of BGA, Inc.,
  • Executive management of BGA Inc.’s marketing, administration and accounting departments,
  • Senior technical support specialist for bundled energy solutions for public and private clients that include feasibility studies, facility assessments, design, construction administration, district energy, financing and/or ongoing service programs, and
  • Contracted management coordination to TECO Energy, Inc. for their district cooling plants in Tampa and Miami.

Most recently, Mr. Lawton, joined by two senior partners, negotiated and executed a management buyout of the stock of TECO Energy Services, Inc. The company was simultaneously renamed BGA, Inc.

During his 12-year tenure at BGA, Inc. (formerly TECO Energy Services) he managed and/or developed district-cooling projects and guaranteed energy performance contract projects across the country both directly for BGA, Inc. as the prime performance contractor, and as an agent of other national performance contracting entities. He is thoroughly familiar and experienced in the acquisition of financing for guaranteed energy saving projects, contract documents, as well as measurement and verification protocol for energy project performance.

A Message From Our President

Joe FellmethFirst I would like to apologize to all our members for missing the February Meeting. There was a family emergency which called me out of town, but I was extremely disappointed I could not be there for the joint meeting.

I hear Jason stepped in very successfully which is a good sign for next year. I also see that our guests both the Association of Energy Engineers and the Miami Chapter of ASHRAE attended the meeting in good numbers. With over 70 attendees the meeting was a huge success. The only disappointing issue is that our Chapter was not very well represented, accounting for only 30 to 35 members. With the enthusiasm I have seen in our past meetings this year, I was expecting to see more like 50 to 60 members.

I will be calling most members this month to rally the troops to make sure we have a strong showing at this month’s meeting. When you do not show, it hurts the overall society. Participation is what builds a strong Chapter; one that is worthwhile being involved in. So lets finish the year up in the coming months as strong as we started.

Sincerely,

Joe Fellmeth
