fishing
in South Florida. This is one of our year’s socials, so please
feel free to bring your wives, husbands, girlfriends etc. It will be held
at
nautical Bimini BoatYard, which is famous for their fine food.
If you are a corporation
or individual who wants to enter the tournament
and do not have access to a boat, I would highly recommend Captain Leo’s
Boat. The following is a link to his website
www.liteningsportfishing.com.
All the proceeds of
the tournament go to ASHRAE Resource
Promotion goal. With a good turn out we should meet our annual goal. It
should be another fun event for those who like to spend a little time
out in South Florida’s beautiful waters. So whether you are a diehard
fisherman
or just want to soak up some sun on a relaxing day out on the ocean,
please sign up.
About
Our Speaker
Even
more important than having a good boat is having a
great Captain!
Meet
Captain Leo DeMattia.
Holder of a Master's license,
Captain DeMattia is a thirty-year veteran of these waters. He is a
native Floridian who has lived here
for 44 years. His experience, knowledge and sure hand will
make your excursion a
successful one.
In addition to this,
Captain
DeMattia has multiple tournament wins to his credit. He holds the record
for the most sailfish caught and released in one day (17). Captain DeMattia
has also been featured on
The Fishin' Hole by ESPN’s Jerry McKinnis.

A
Final Message From Our President
It
has been a pleasure serving as the GoldCoast Chapter’s President
over the last year. I would like to express my gratitude to all members
who have contributed to our success during my term. It has been extremely
gratifying to have served with all of my officers and committee chairs
whose hard work and dedication helped us achieve the goals we set for
ourselves.
The businesses
that supported our Chapter were key elements in giving us the tools we
needed to keep the Chapter and Society strong. I would like to thank all
those who attended our meetings, who brought the energy to our monthly
presentations that is needed to build momentum. It is the gathering of
the members and the exchange of ideas that occurs during our meetings,
which builds the value of ASHRAE.
I will
now join the growing list of Past Presidents who you see listed in our
monthly newsletter, but unlike old soldiers I will not fade away. Next
year I will have the opportunity and challenge to be Resource Promotions
Chair.
Please
join me in supporting Jason Ayala as next year’s President. As you
may know the GoldCoast Chapter will be hosting next year’s Chapter
Regional Conference, so Jason will have more than enough to keep him busy.
Let’s all continue to help ASHRAE in whatever means we can.
Sincerely,
Joe
Fellmeth

URGENT
Resource & Promotion Update:
DO NOT MISS THIS YEAR’S
“THE WAR” which has been relocated to the 15th Street Fisheries
& Ft. Lauderdale Marina as our home base location. Our ASHRAE Gold
coast Chapter will perform the 2nd annual The “WAR” fishing
tournament on June 12, 2004 with all proceeds to be contributed to ASHRAE
for the Gold Coast Chapter’s Resource & Promotion fundraising
campaign. The tournament will be held at Ft. Lauderdale Marina, SE 15th
Street on the west side of the Intracostal, in Ft. Lauderdale.
The “WAR” is about
fishing, fun and a unique format of competition. The “WAR”
has the typical fishing fleet competition and also includes a unique friendly
competition amongst professional peers. There are three categories for
the competition amongst; A) Engineers, B) Contractors and C) Vendors (Manufacture
Representatives, Sales Engineers/Salespersons in General). See the attached
flyer for more information.
We need you to register your
fishing team if you are a fisherman or not. All you need is a boat and
a few people to compete and have a great time while support a worthy ASHRAE
cause. We also need corporate sponsors for the tournament prizes. This
event is paramount to our chapter’s successfully reaching our Resource
& Promotion goals.

Membership
May
is Student Mmebership month at the GoldCoast Chapter. Traditionally
we have not had much participation by students since we lack the 4 year
engineering college within our Chapter's territory. Now that ASHRAE has
numerous programs supporting K-12 education, we thought it would be a
great time to focus on student members. Our goal for this year is 30 new
student members. In support of this we are having a Chapter / Student
meeting this May 25th at Coral Springs High School. We will discuss the
schoo's Thermal Energy Plant and careers in HVAC.
