First Ever July Meeting
To be more accurate, this will be our first ever July Social.

As most members know, ASHRAE Chapters take the summer off from meetings, since many people are on vacation. In addition the Chapter’s officers are busy preparing for the Chapters Regional Conference. This year however, we thought we would arrange an informal meeting at a favorite watering hole so that those members who wish to get together and talk shop can have that opportunity.

This past year the “after the meeting meetings” at Champps became very popular, so we thought this would be an ideal place for July. Of course there will be no set dinner or presentation for this event. It should be said to ease the fears of most among us, that technical presentations will resume this September.

Let me take this opportunity to ask for the members’ input on next year’s presentation topics. If you have any topics of interest to you or have connections to a person who could give a valuable presentation to our Chapter, please email me at joe.fellmeth@browardschools.com with this information. Thank you

Sincerely,

Joe Fellmeth

A Message From Our In-Coming
2003-2004 President

Dear Gold Coast ASHARE members:

I hope you all are enjoying your summers - vacations, longer hours of sunlight and the beautiful hot humid rainy afternoons of South Florida. Typically the local Chapter all but shuts down during the months of July and August, with people going on vacation, and Chapter officers and Chairs preparing for the upcoming CRC.

Instead of loosing touch with our members this summer we thought we would post notices of upcoming events, CRC news and anything related to the summer break which would be interesting to our members.

As members of the Chapter, if you have some fun digital photos of your summer vacation or fishing trip, send them to us (joe.fellmeth@browardschools.com) and we’ll post them in the August addition of the newsletter.

So lets see the snapshots of you and your family/friends in front of the world’s largest ball of string or you and your fishing buddies with the world’s largest string of Dolphin.

This year’s Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) for Region XII will be held in San Juan Puerto Rico. It starts on Wednesday August 13th and ends Saturday August 16th. In addition to sharing ideas with fellow chapters in our region, the CRC gives all members an avenue to voice their feedback to the national Society.

ASHRAE is a grass roots organization; if there is a change or suggestion you would like to see made in the Society in general or its publications, please email it to me and I will submit it during the CRC.

I hope to see some of you at Champps in July, and I’m looking forward to seeing some crazy pictures of your summer fun.

Sincerely,

Joe Fellmeth

1st Annual Fishing Tournament
"The War" Results
RESOURCE PROMOTION YEAR-END UPDATE

The ASHRAE 2002-2003 year ended with the Gold Coast Chapter’s first annual fishing tournament, “The War,” on June 7, 2003. Rough seas challenged the participants’ mettle. Despite the “sporty” conditions, twenty-seven fisherpersons on seven boats hung in there.to make the inaugural event a success by generating $ 2,100.00 for the Research Campaign.

Sponsors for the event included: Diversified Fluid Controls (Rick & Dan Ellison), First Place Sponsor; The Trane Company (Mike Balko), Second Place Sponsor and York International, (Dan Rogers) Third Place Sponsor. Thank you to all the participants for making this inaugural tournament both fun and successful.

The winners were as follows;

First Place Boat Commission (Captain-Mike Balko)
Second Place Boat Boomerang (Captain-Robbie Waszak)
Third Place Boat First Strike (Captain-Dan Ellison)
Largest non-dolphin fish Boomerang (Captain-Robbie Waszak)
Largest dolphin for Engineer category First Strike (Captain-Dan Ellison)
Largest dolphin for Contractor category Commission (Captain-Mike Balko)
Largest dolphin for Vendor category Boomerang (Captain-Robbie Waszak)

Our chapter substantially exceeded research contribution goals by sponsoring three fund raising events: 1) the 11th Annual Fall Golf Classic; 2) the Humidity Control Seminar; and 3) the 1st Annual Fishing Tournament. Additionally, we received a $10,000 contribution and the Golden Circle Award from NEBB thanks to Eric Jenison.

Because of our members’ continued support and generosity, we surpassed our expectations. Rick Ellison, Mike Balko and Eric Jenson are to be commended for their continued contributions to our chapter’s success. Active participation, such as ours at the local level, promotes ASHRAE’s primary purpose of ensuring research based standards for the benefit of the public health and welfare. Giving back while having fun makes participation in our chapter a rewarding and satisfying experience. Thank you all for your time and enthusiasm. Let’s make next year another Gold Coast Chapter success!

2002-2003 Resource Promotion Chairman
