| Broward County Government is gaining national recognition as a leader in the areas of energy efficient buildings and alternative fuel vehicles. To date, these endeavors are resulting in annual energy cost savings of more than $2.5 million (41 million kWh) and are preventing more than 62 million pounds of greenhouse gasses (equivalent of removing 6,83 cars from the road or planting 8,470 acres of trees). In addition Broward County has a continuing creative outreach program. Learn more about Broward County's energy management efforts that garnered the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Buildings Government Partner of the Year in 1999, and their plans for the future. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn the County’s methods of Energy Conservation to apply to your facilities or see how your business can partner with the County to reach future goals. Message From Our President Mr. William Coad addressed our group this past month. Mr. Coad is an ASHRAE Past President and designated Distinguished Lecturer. Bill presented his thoughts regarding the "Energy Ethic". His discussion spoke to the fact that Energy Conservation is a National Security matter and it is the Professional Engineering community's responsibility to manage these resources. He pointed out that petroleum is not in infinite supply and that we need to deliver outcomes through emerging technologies. He correlated the effect of the industrial revolution with our current situation, and dependence upon foreign oil. He urged our group to provide system designs which support energy conservation and effective use of energy. We have a local speaker this month who holds the responsibility to assist in the delivery of energy conservation within Broward county. Mr. Tony Rosa will address our chapter in April. Please see the notification within the Newsletter for more details. We hope to see you on the 9th. Sincerely, Richard
