A Note From the President
Welcome to 2008-2009 ASHRAE Goldcoast Season!
It is the beginning of an exciting new season of ASHRAE, and I would like to welcome you all!
I will be your chapter president this year, and I look forward to a continuation of the positive steps
this chapter has taken over the last couple of years.
It is a historical time for ASHRAE as a professional organization. We just returned from this years Chapters
Regional Conference (CRC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina...The 1st CRC in South America, and a step in ASHRAE reaching
out to our world neighbors and becoming the internationally recognized standard for HVAC engineering professionals.
ASHRAE is also working on several fronts with the USGBC and the American Institute of Architects, writing
sustainable standards and working on guidelines for increasing building efficiencies and reducing carbon emissions.
Our goal this year is to reconnect with our local membership base. We are going to be certain we are providing the
services our 160+ members deserve. This is a twofold process, we want to let everybody know what ASHRAE does for
them and the resources that they provide, as well as find out what our local members want from their local board.
We will then work on implementing these things.
In this spirit, we are implementing several changes to the way we have scheduled our monthly events:
- Meetings will now be the 2nd Thursday of each month. This lessens the conflicts our meetings have with several other
professional associations that many of our members are a part of. We believe this will increase attendance.
- Meetings will be held at Champps. We enjoyed the Jobing.com location, but the national liability policy prohibits
us from serving adult beverages.
- We are getting a PA system for speakers to help overcome those times when this venue
become a little noisy.
- We are moving the start times up for our meetings. Several schedules are being considered. A meeting announcement
will follow shortly.
I look forward to seeing all of you at a meeting or event this year. If anybody would like to contact me with input
or suggestions, please do so by email at bellis@deroseconsultants.com.

Meeting Announcement
Come join us on Thursday, September 11th for the first meeting of the new ASHRAE season.
We have some announcements to make, a slide show and pictures of the CRC in Argentina, and some awards
to distribute.
This month's topic:
Demand Control Ventilation on Steroids or Optimized Ventilation Performance?
Could a Multipoint facility monitoring system really be Demand Control Ventilation on STEROIDS or perhaps
just the best solution to insure you get an Optimizer Cost Effective Energy Saving Building and also maintain
a healthy building! This month’s presentation we compare the actual performance of comparative CO2 sensing
systems, which is currently the design norm for DCV. Review some pitfalls related to this method of controlling
DCV. And weather you actually achieve energy savings as expected? What are the potential problems and how can
we improve?
About the Speaker:
Our speaker this month is Mr. Daniel Rogers, PE. with Flow Control Technology Company, LLC. Out of Tampa, Florida.
Mr. Rogers graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1983 and
a Masters in Business Administration in 1985. He became a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida in 1992.
Mr. Rogers has been a Controls Contractor with Rogers & Associates in Orlando, Florida. As some of you may know,
he most recently worked in South Florida for York International and then Johnson Controls. Most recently, he just
joined his father’s Manufactures Representative firm of Flow Control Technology Company.
Dan will introduce the emerging technology of Multi-Point facility monitoring sampling system that senses a
multitude of indoor environmental parameters throughout the faculty to deliver cost effective, accurate, and
reliable knowledge on ventilation performance. This technology will insure the best possible decisions are made
regarding the reduction of Outside Air (DCV) while insuring that health of the building. This is achieved by taking
into account all the Human pollutants, biological pollutants and human comfort parameters. By accurately measuring
(CO2, CO, Particulates, TVOC, RH, Dew Point, Temperature, Enthalpy) and then integrate this information into the
building management system to optimize the building’s performance.
This technology applies to more than just Demand Control Ventilation. This technology facilitates improved energy
performance and indoor environmental quality- the essence of LEED. The system has a direct and primary impact to
help generate five to eight LEED credits!! So come have some fun and learn about this new emerging application to
DCV technology while supporting your ASHRAE chapter.
